This version is able to respect custom executables and does not suspend if one of them is running. They can be entered by creating a registry value at the following location:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Herman van Eijk\MceStandbyTool\Non Idle Applications

The name does not matter, the value should be the name of the executable. MST needs a restart to activate new values.

I already included values for TMT and the WHS backup.

PowerDVD cannot be handled this way, the executable keeps running after the movie has ended. More work is needed.

If any of you works out executables that are related to mediacenter use please post them here, I will include them in a next version.

This version also is able to respect custom network sessions and does not suspend if one of them is in use. They can be entered just like the custom executables by creating a registry value at the following locations:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Herman van Eijk\MceStandbyTool\Non Idle Networksessions

To figure out which sessions are in use open a command prompt with administrator rights and execute the following command:

net sessions

A value for homegroup sharing is already defined, so MST will not suspend the system when another PC plays recordings from it.

I also have added te RunOnDisplayOn and RunOnDisplayOff events.

Download from here.

Have fun,

Herman

Wow, thanks hveijk!!!   Look for a donation to be used on your choice of libation.   Paypal should have a "donate beer" option, that allows you to decide how many beers to buy, and then convert the currencies to compensate...   smile

When I install this version it never runs or shows up in the task bar.  But when I install version 099 it works fine.  I don't have any errors in my manager and when I try to run the program by double clicking in the program files folder it doesn't run.  Restart does not help.

Hi thx for the tool from DK, donation coming up :-)

I have the 09100 up and running fine but i dont get the strings below in the regestry, does anyone have a solution for me? Or maybe just a hint in the right direction.

Open the registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Herman van Eijk\MceStandbyTool

Here you will find two values (strings):

    RunAtSuspend
    RunAtResume

Here you can enter the executable or script (including the full path).

My system is : w7 64bit

Nice on......

Because of running 64bit OS the place for the keys are:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Herman van Eijk\MceStandbyTool

I have filled in a program that sends magick packet to my NAS in keys:

RunOnAutoResume
RunOnAwayResume
RunOnReboot
RunOnInterfaceResume
RunOnUserResume

And it works like a charm.

I'm occasionally getting a dialog box saying "Failed to meet unblank requirements".   The message does not seem to affect performance though.   Great release, BTW!

Edit:
The message seem to appear on resume from standby.

I've also seen the "Failed to meet unblank requirements" error (there were 3 of them) after a resume. Majority of time it doesn't happen.

Hi Herman,

I would just let you know, that under W7 x64, the auto-login option doesn't work. I can fill in my credentials, but after a reboot, Windows prompts me for my username/password.

I don't know if it's mentioned before.

Great tool - I have been using 0.9.099 for several weeks - exceptionally helpful resolving long standing sleep/resume problems. Thank you, thank you!

Unfortunately, I have been unsuccessful getting the 9.9.100 GUI to launch on XP (Professional SP3 32-bit). Only one record is written to the log which apparently remained enabled from the prior version: "MCE Standby Tool/frontend closed". I reinstalled 0.9.099 which runs fine.

I realize XP is a dying platform but felt I should report my findings anyhow.

Best,
Dave

I have not been able to reproduce this, any other clues that might help on isolating this issue?

Did you try re-downloading this version?
Did you try to run without installing?
Any antivirus getting in the way?
What the language of the Windows your using?

This is often caused by not being able to re-start eHome. The main cause for this is the limited time MST has to close eHome when suspending. If MST is not able to close MST at suspend this might cause issues at resume.

Try to optimize the closing of eHome by limiting the close time of eHome. Removing plug-ins and additional software might help.

I will look into this, I will might start using the OS its own dialog for this.

Yeah, that makes sense.   Unfortunately I'm running software called DVBlink for HDPVR which sometimes makes it slow to exit ehome.   Since I can't dump the DVBlink software (if I do, i lose HD!), I may just turn off MST's ehome start/stop function.   If I understand correctly, this might cause MST to mistake an automated resume for a user requested resume and cause the machine not to sleep as quickly after the automated task is complete, correct?

Hi

Thanks for the new version.
I resently made a new build of 7MC on a core i3 platform.
So I installed the new version 0.9.99 and now the 0.9.100 (used to run the 0.9.98 version)

But I have some strange occurances.
I have it set up as following:
Stop on suspend, start always (i need the stop of ehome, otherwise my floppydtv card won´t work)
Suspend delay 3 sec.
Ehome start delay 2 sec.

Sometimes when I resume, I can see the taskbar below the blank image, ehome is definately not running.
But then i noticed that the mce gui was slightly to the left position on my screen.
So i closed the mce frontend.
Right away it started itself again Huh

I checked the log and saw an entry just after I closed the frontend, saying .. ehome finally closed...

It seems like it wasn´t closed allthough I couldn´t see it on the taskbar as stated earlier.

This new version, does it also close the ehrecvr service?
On the .98 version I needed a bat file to stop the service (to get the floppydtv card to work)

Just wondering if I should return to that version.

I have two Win7 Media Center machines with tuners and a WHS (Windows Home Server).  I use the archive function of the WHS to copy recorded programs to the WHS Recorded TV folder so that either machine can see programs recorded by the other machine.  While the programs are recording on the individual machines, I use Show Analyzer to scan them for commercials and produce the commercial information (*.xml) file which is saved in the Public folder on the WHS (again so either machine can access the commercials file during playback.)

I put an entry in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Herman van Eijk\MceStandbyTool\Non Idle Applications for the ShowAnalyzerEngine.exe and when I view the log files it looks like MST is recognizing it ok.  Here is a section of the log file.

Tue 24 Aug 2010 16:53:37.436 - AwakeState: AS_MEDIACENTER
Tue 24 Aug 2010 16:53:37.441 - 0 0 0 0 1 0
Tue 24 Aug 2010 16:53:37.445 - ExecutionState: 1
Tue 24 Aug 2010 16:53:37.450 - StayAwakeConditions: 0001C709 (00004300)
Tue 24 Aug 2010 16:54:08.873 - StayAwakeConditions: 0001C509 (00000200)
Tue 24 Aug 2010 16:58:02.230 - Number of active recordings: 1
Tue 24 Aug 2010 16:58:02.238 - StayAwakeConditions: 0001C709 (00000200)
Tue 24 Aug 2010 16:58:41.651 - Number of "Non Idle Applications" running: 1/1/1
                               ShowAnalyzerEngine.exe
Tue 24 Aug 2010 16:58:41.660 - StayAwakeConditions: 0001DF09 (00001800)

One problem I have is that with the MST tool open, ShowAnalyzerEngine doesn't show as one of the "Sleep Stoppers" when you press the "Show Sleep Stoppers" button on the Windows Idle tab of MST.

The second problem I have is that although the Windows.Home.Server.Archive.Transfer.Service does show as a "Sleep Stopper" when you press the button, it apparently doesn't stop the computer from going to sleep,

On the following log a recording was started at 16:07 which ended at 16:33. As you can see the machine entered standby at 16:33:00.  I know the Archive Service was running at the time because the wtv-temp file that it creates
on the WHS while transferring was there but it looks like only about one-third the file was transferred.  Since the Archive Program is a Service and is always running, I can't add it to the idle applications because it runs
continiously.  Any suggestions on how to solve the problem or why the Archive Service isn't keeping MST from entering standby would be appreciated.

Use the folder mentioned in the first post to add bit torrent to the apps that prevent standby.  I added utorrent.exe and it works perfect.   Just be sure to tell your torrent application to exit when done, and the computer will then begin to sleep normally.

I have two machines running Win 7 MCE with the latest beta MST,  Below is a log from one of the machines which looks to have been awake since 13:23 yesterday.  Is there any way to tell what programs kept the computer from going to sleep?

Hi all,

First, I appreciate the software, and all the ideas you put into it !

I've installed the beta 0.9.100, and run into some issues.

The program seems to work (the PC goes to sleep, resume ehome at wake up, etc..), and resides in the tray.

But I can't get the configuration app to open : right click, menu "configure" ---> nothing happens.

I use a french Vista 32 ultimate, MS security essentials, and used before the 0.9.094 without any glitches

Thanks in advance for any help

I've found that my problem is only related to remote desktop :

No problem if I use the regular console (Kb, Ms and display).

But the problem occurs (no reaction to the right menu "configure") if I access the machine with windows remote desktop (which is the usual way for me).

NB : there was no problem with the previous version, this is new to the 0.9.100.

That's not a big deal, just wanted to let you know.

Hi,

THANK YOU for this GREAT tool! I LOVE IT!

I have a quick question regarding system idleness... my computer won't go to sleep automatically, and MST has the following to say under "sleep blockers":

DISPLAY:
None.

SYSTEM:
[DRIVER] J
[DRIVER] J
[DRIVER] J
[DRIVER] J
[DRIVER] J
[DRIVER] J
[DRIVER] J

AWAYMODE:
None.

I have removed the only driver I could find starting with a "J", but the issue is still present. Can someone please assist me in identifying the offending driver so I can replace/update/remove it?

Also, can you please post which command line MST is passing to powercfg.exe to gather the above info?

Thanks in advance!

Is it possible to get http://www.mediabrowser.tv/ started after a resume?

I see there is a choise of extensibility application in the tab Ehome but it has no further configuration of choosing a plugin.

I'm occasionally getting a dialog box saying "Failed to meet unblank requirements".
Since I have the same problem i decided to use the "just navigate to the start page" function (which is the tv guide in my case).
Unfortunately that does not work very reliably (approximately 4 out of 10 times).
Is there a way to improve this charcteristic? Either the "restart every time" or the "navigate to the startpage" function?
I'm using Windows 7 in the 64 bit version.

Thanks in advance

With the new improvements, is there a way to have the Netflix plugin prevent standby?  As mentioned here:

For me, it worked to add "ehexthost32.exe" to the idle apps watchlist that is mentioned in the first post.

As I understand it, this message is caused when media center does not exit in time when going into standby.   It is not affected by the two options you mention.    I have not been able to get my setup to reliably exit in time for standby, so I get the message 1/4 time I resume from standby.   An option to surpress the message box would be nice.

I also get this "failed to meet unbank requirements" - Mediaportal will load ok but then the screen will go blank for quiet a few seconds then this error will come up which needs a click on OK to remove.

How can it be stopped please?

I'm a little confuse regarding the registry entries.

What is the right way to create this registry for "Non Idle Applications"

this way? in this case should the value be a REG_SZ or REG_MULTI_SZ?
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Herman van Eijk\MceStandbyTool]
"Non Idle Applications"="ManagementConsole.exe"

or this?
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Herman van Eijk\MceStandbyTool\Non Idle Applications]
"acronis"="ManagementConsole.exe"

And what will be the correct sintax for more than one application?

Thank you.

Hi,
for some reason Standby Tool puts Win 7 x64 to sleep when I'm connected using Media Center Extender. I had the "Force Away mode when extender is in use enabled", which I didn't have earlier (just tried to enable it without any reason). Will now try without it if it will still go to standby.

Did we ever get a solution to this issue? I have the same problem and would really like to see it solved.

Thanks.

Jeppe

I found the following in a previous post.

The debug tab contains a new checkbox "Wake monitor/TV at resume", this should prevent the black screen on resume on some HDMI connected TVs (often combined with ATI videocards). Please report success/failure!

How exactly is this accomplished ?  Is this an HDMI line reset or does it use another method ?

THanks

On my install of this beta, I am unable to enable or disable the checkboxes on the Devices tab.  Clicking refresh updates the list, and I can go into device manager to change the power management on a device, but the checkboxes are unresponsive.  Anyone else have this problem?  I'm using Windows 7 Professional 32-bit and just did a clean install (for other reasons) and the situation is the same.

Hi!
I'd love to autostart MediaBrowser when eHome starts.
I know MediaBrowser's entrypoint id, name, title and so on...

Is there a way to achieve this?

Thanks,
Luca.

Does MST also work when MCE is closed?
My PC goes to sleep mode when MCE is opened and that's good but when MCE is closed my PC won't go into sleep mode.

Is anyone having issues with 0.9.100 working on Windows 7 Ultimate x64? I have been using 0.9.098 and that one loads into the system tray but for some reason, when I install 0.9.100; the system tray icon never comes up and the executable doesn't show that it is running in Task Manager. I looked at the RUN key in the registry and it is set to load with the "mst.exe engine" command but it never loads. I also tried double-clicking on the executable from the "Program Files (x86)" directory but it never shows in Task Manager when I try it that way either..

Even stranger, normally after installing the older versions such as 0.9.098 and 0.9.099, the configure window pops up immediately for me to configure the power sleep state. When I run the installer for 0.9.100, it never does that either. The new registry values are in the registry but it doesn't appear that anything is ever executing or working.

Hopefully someone else has experienced this behavior and possibly knows how to fix it? I re-installed 0.9.099 and it's working for now.. I would like to have the new beta working so my WHS backups can be successful! Any help is appreciated!

Further testing I now have 0.99.100 launching. I had to create a scheduled task execute with the "highest privileges" on user logon as opposed to using the Registry Run key. I have also found that choosing the "Configure" option from the system tray icon works if I click on it when logged in locally. I normally close MCE and do administrative changes to my MCE computer via RDP. When I try the "Configure" option from RDP, nothing appears for me to make any changes. The previous versions did not exhibit this behavior. Now that I have a workaround, I can beta test 0.99.100! Is there some other method I can try so I can RDP and configure MST via the GUI Configure option or is this a change that I will need to get used to?

I also get this problem on my freshly built W7 64-bit system. Is it a 'privileges' issue - I did reboot and restart the app as 'administrator' but makes no difference?

Hi,

I've got a small problem all of a sudden whenever the computer goes into hibernation or comes out via MCE standby recordings don't start until Media centre is opened, does anyone have any ideas as how to fix this it's happening on a very frequent basis and a reinstall of Windows hasn't helped.

The problem is most probably a corrupt epg guide, what you need to do is find the file mcepg* in windows 7 this will be found under: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome or where the drive letter is your system file. I would also recommend making sure your bios is up to date as well but also have a look under services.msc to see whether the windows media centre services are listed these are the reciever and scheduler services.

I have just cracked the problem on my machine, but I don't think it'll wake from hibernation for recordings as what I seem to have experinced and I may have accidently disabled sleep in the bios, which I'll need to re-activate.
